Killington debuted as planned on Sunday afternoon, making it the first ski area in North America to open in the 2015-16 season. The Vermont ski area featured two trails serviced by a chairlift (accessed via the K1 gondola).
After operating only for season pass holders, Killington will open to the public on Monday. Operations will continue as weather and conditions permit.
The opening day was Killington's fourth October debut in the past five years. Killington opened on November 3rd last season.
Meanwhile, snowmaking continues at Sunday River, where two trails are set to open to the public on Monday. The area will then operate on weekends only, as conditions permit, into November. The projected opening will be Sunday River's earliest since October 14, 2009. The area opened on November 3 last season.
Snowmaking is set to continue through Monday at Wildcat. While an opening day is not set, it is possible Wildcat could become the first area open top to bottom in New England after the next snowmaking opportunity arrives.
