A dozen years after filing with the White Mountain National Forest, Loon Mountain Resort is planning to proceed with the next phase of its South Peak expansion.

In a plan announced today, Loon is proposing to install a 500 vertical foot loading carpet fixed grip quad and two magic carpet conveyor lifts below the Escape Route trail, serving multiple new novice and intermediate trails.
According to Loon president and general manager Brian Norton, "Providing lift access and more skiing and riding closer to downtown Lincoln is exciting-and unique-particularly in the East."

The proposal varies from original plans, which called for overlapping fixed grip quads. The proposed quad features a base terminal closer to the magic carpets and a top terminal at the end of the Cruiser trail as compared to earlier plans. The lift will serve two top-to-bottom novice trails. At present, the only novice trail at Loon with high speed lift service is Bear Claw.

In addition to the new terrain, the existing upper mountain Undercut glade is reportedly slated to become a trail to provide additional downhill capacity to the new complex from upper South Peak.
Ticketing and other services are slated to be available at the base of the new chairlift for the 2023-24 season.
