Sunday River skiers are set to have a new peak this winter, as work continues on the new Merrill Hill development.
Primarily a real estate development, Merrill Hill will be served by a Doppelmayr triple chairlift. It is the first new lift-served peak to be developed in New England since Green Peak at Waterville Valley in 2016-17.
Trails were cleared this spring, including the 500 vertical foot lift line running from the junction of Ridge Run and Second Thoughts to an area east of Merrill Hill's 1,914 foot ledgy summit. Concrete has been poured for the base and summit terminals, while forms are being constructed for the tower footings.
Meanwhile, some of the new trails already been excavated and seeded. Large quantities of of snowmaking pipe have been staged in multiple locations below the complex, awaiting installation.
