A colder than average December across most of New England has boosted snowmaking efforts.

Thanks to a strong snowmaking push, Ski Sundown in Connecticut became the first area in New England to open 100% of its terrain on machine-made snow this winter. After starting its season and its new fixed grip quad on December 13, Sundown opened all 17 of its trails on December 20th, the last day of fall. The area did not open until after Christmas last winter.
Though New England ski areas battled a warmer than average November and drought conditions, the colder than average December has provided one of the best early-season snowmaking windows in recent memory. Every public ski area in Connecticut and Rhode Island has been in operation for at least a week.
Larger ski resorts, such as Killington and Sunday River, are closing in on opening most of their lifts before Christmas.
