Not wasting any time, the new ownership of Catamount is already cutting the lift line for its new triple chairlift and will start digging footings next week, according to a Facebook post. If completed for the winter, it would be the only chairlift installed in Southern New England this year.
To be called Promenade Triple Chairlift, the 2,500 foot lift will have a vertical rise of 550 feet, rising from adjacent to the Meadows Triple and rise to a higher top terminal location above Upper Promenade. The ownership will likely be using one of the 1980s Poma triple chairlifts in storage at sister area Berkshire East.
Located on the border of Massachusetts and New York, Catamount was owned by the Gilbert and Edwards families for 45 years prior to selling to the Schaefer family in May. The area features a 1,000 foot vertical drop, served by 1 quad, 1 triple, and two double chairlifts.
