April Snowmaking in Progress at Sugarloaf
Recent weather pattern has prompted the Maine ski area to fire up snowguns.
Sunday, April 3, 2016, NewEnglandSkiIndustry.com

In response to the recent thaw and subsequent arctic freeze, Sugarloaf fired up its snow guns on Hayburner today. No other ski areas in New England have announced April snowmaking operations at this time.

Sugarloaf's management had previously alluded to April snowmaking operations in an April Fool's Day e-mail, which in the end proved to have some truth to it. According to the area's snow report today, "[t]he plan is to expand operations to Candyside and the SuperQuad load area tonight, while temperatures remain favorable over the next few days."

After today, less than a dozen ski areas will remain open on a weekend or full time basis.
