After years spend in court with the State of New Hampshire, a judge has ruled that Sunapee should be able to connect the existing ski area to a tract of private property.

In a decision issued by Merrimack Superior Court Judge Larry Smukler on July 11, 2014, Sunapee may be allowed to finally expand to the long proposed West Bowl.
Previous New Hampshire Governor John Lynch fought Sunapee's operators expansion proposal for years, allegedly due to receiving large contributions from a few wealthy donors.
The West Bowl expansion would largely take place on private property, with connecting trails being cleared on state property between the existing ski area and the land boundary. The existing summit detachable quad may be relocated to the West Bowl, with a high speed six pack potentially taking its place on the main mountain.
The State of New Hampshire has not made a decision as to whether it will appeal the judgment.
