The New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General is investigating the new Vail Resorts sales tax following criticism from Governor Kelly Ayotte.
In a press release issued today, Governor Ayotte declared, "New Hampshire is proud to have no sales tax, and we’re not going to let an out-of-state company try to sneak one in."
As first published on NewEnglandSkiIndustry.com on April 15, Vail Resorts is imposing a 3.2% "Sales and Other Taxes" charge on all Epic products, including online day passes. Unveiled in a recent shareholder presentation, the tax is being applied at all Vail-operated New Hampshire resorts, including Mt. Sunapee, which is leased from the State of New Hampshire. Vail also operates Attitash, Crotched, and Wildcat.
Pursuant to RSA 78-D:1.II, "The state of New Hampshire does not impose a sales tax on customers making purchases of goods and services in New Hampshire, nor on goods and services purchased by its residents out of state for use, storage, or consumption in New Hampshire."
