In a surprise web post, Magic Mountain announced James Sullivan and JLS Magic, LLC would no longer be operating the ski area and that owner Tom Barker would be assuming operational control.
Sullivan took over the troubled ski area in 2006 and made national headlines in 2009 when he pitched the idea of replicating a Mad River Glen cooperative at Magic.
While share sale milestones were hit in 2012, the funds were quietly moved to more of a club like model.
Sullivan will reportedly remain active in Magic Mountain's ski school and racing programs. The State of Vermont is reportedly looking into the financial practices of the former operating entity.
