Sunday River announced two new lift projects today in a series of Facebook posts.
Barker Quad
The aging Barker Mountain Quad will be replaced with a new Doppelmayr high-speed six-person bubble chairlift. Formerly known as the Sunday River Express, the Yan lift was the first high-speed quad installed in Maine. Despite being rebuilt by Poma, the lift has suffered from reliability issues. The new lift will climb nearly 1,400 vertical feet in less than 5 minutes and will feature heated seats.
Merrill Hill
Meanwhile, a second Doppelmayr triple chairlift will be installed on Merrill Hill, serving additional real estate and terrain. Though a rendering posted by Sunday River suggests the lift would climb 800 vertical feet from Monkey Brook Road on the north side of the hill, Bucksaw Express will be installed at Sugarloaf, while Loon will be installing a new fixed grip quad in South Peak. Pleasant Mountain is also rumored to be a future recipient of a high speed quad.
Since taking over Sunday River in 2007, Boyne has overseen the installation of a chondola, an eight-person bubble, two triple chairs, and a T-Bar. Further lift projects are expected with the resort's 2030 plan.
