Concerns about the Omicron variant, vaccine efficacy, booster shots, and vaccine mandates are swirling throughout New England as ski areas attempt to navigate the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape with the 2021-22 ski season picking up steam.
Many ski areas have been able to relax policies in place during the 2020-21 season and are hopeful to return to normal with respect to capacities and mandates. Last year's indoor/outdoor mask mandates have given way to indoor mask recommendations at many areas. At present, the only lift mask mandates in place are Loon's gondola and Jay Peak's tramway.
With controversial OSHA rules currently halted, some ski areas are choosing to hold off on employee vaccine mandates for the time being, while others, such as Vail Resorts, have already instituted them. In addition, Epic customers will have to provide proof-of-vaccination in order to eat at its indoor walk-up food establishments; sit-down restaurants remain vaccine-optional. Magic has also recommended bringing proof of vaccination for indoor events. No other ski areas have announced customer proof-of-vaccination requirements.
