Bob Hoyt, longtime King Pine general manager and president of Purity Spring Resort, passed away last night at the age of 71.

Hoyt's family first came to the Purity Spring region over a century ago, developing Purity Spring Resort. Hoyt's father, Milt, founded King Pine ski area at the resort in 1962. Milt retired in 1976, handing the reigns to his Bob and his siblings, Ted, Laura, and Susie.

Hoyt retired last spring, following a cancer diagnosis. Andrew Mahoney now serves as King Pine's general manager.

"This is a way of life, Hoyt told the Boston Globe in 2012, "I wouldn't have chosen a different career. You become personally involved with the guests, which is so rewarding."

Since its founding in 1962, the small King Pine ski area has grown to feature 17 trails served by 3 triple chairlifts.
