Southern Vermont's Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain was granted a Vermont Act 250 permit for a new chairlift on April 22, paiving the way for a 2015 installation. The Hermitage Club previously received unanimous approval for the lift at the August Wilmington Development Review Board meeting.
According to documents filed with the state, the $7.3 million lift will be a 700 HP Doppelmayr high speed six person bubble chairlift. The new lift will follow the same line as the to-be-removed 30 year old Barnstormer triple.
At a "state of the club" session, club President Jim Barnes reportedly stated the new lift would have heated seats and should be open for the 2015-16 season. The Deerfield Valley News reports the club has nearly 700 members. Individual new membership now costs $70,000.
At that same meeting, plans were discussed for a new slopeside condo hotel. According to the Hermitage web site, the Hotel Hermitage is expected to open for the 2016-17 season and will feature 9X units, a heated parking garage, a restaurant, a lounge, retail shops, and meeting rooms. At least 23 units have already been sold for $16.5 million, and remaining available units range from $373K for a studio condo to $1.439 million for a 2 bedroom condo.
