According to the Vermont Standard, a 5 alarm fire was reported at the Ascutney base lodge at 5:30 Thursday morning. Firefighters are reportedly struggling with sub zero temperatures, wind, and water pressure issues.

According to town records, the ski area base lodge also houses critical components of the water system that serves 273 taxpayers. In addition, AT&T has a cell tower on the building.

The financially troubled Ascutney Mountain ski area last operated amidst foreclosure proceedings during the 2009-10 season. The Town of West Windsor approved the acquisition of the defunct ski area on October 14, 2014.
