According to ABC 22 and Fox 44, a Smugglers Notch snowmaking pump house caught fire Wednesday night. Dangerously cold, windy conditions, and rough side roads hampered the local fire department's response. No injuries were reported.
According to a Facebook post prior to the fire, Smugglers Notch had planned extensive snowmaking operations all week. It is not yet known what impact the pump house will have on the snowmaking system.
UPDATE: While the facility that burned was reportedly a total loss and may have taken down Smugglers Notch's phone system, the snowmaking system is still operable.
