Berkshire East Opens Largest Mountain Coaster in North America
The Thunderbolt debuts for Columbus weekend.

After months of construction, Berkshire East Mountain Resort is opening the longest mountain coaster in North America on Columbus Day weekend.

At 5,400 feet in length (including a 3,870 foot long descent), the Thunderbolt is reportedly the longest in North America. The Aquatic Development Group, Inc. coaster was installed by Berkshire East's crew and opened on Friday, October 10, 2014. The design was inspired by the feel of high speed alpine ski racing, complete with numerous twists, turns, and dips.

The coaster is part of a multi-million dollar series of investments made in and around the resort by the Schaefer family in 2014. Hundreds of acres of land have been acquired, a new quad chairlift is being installed, a large mountain bike park being constructed, and a million dollar farm based dining and lodging facility has purchased.
